Melinda's world is very small. Her dour parents, members of a religious sect, forbid the celebration of birthdays or holidays. Melinda finds solace in small things: a spun silver spider web, her box of treasures, and a stolen afternoon at Silver Lake on her "day of days." As the movie and the year progresses, Melinda experiences ageless comforts and pains. A disgraced famous writer and a waylaid college professor, two exiles in the small Mid-Western town, haunt the edges of her sheltered life. An earthy, warmhearted waitress introduces her to the blues and a fizzy drink called Cola-Cola. She receives her first explorative attention from a boy. Escalating tragedy shatters Melinda's innocence. Devastated, she flees into the night where, by drawing on her tenacious spirit, she ultimately triumphs.

The television series was based on a play by Danish author Bjarne Reuter. In 1984 Reuter published his collection Tre skuespil ("Three Plays"); a collection containing also En dag i Hector Hansens liv ("A Day in the Life of Hector Hansen") and Kom der lys i neonrøret, gutter? ("Was There Light in the Neon Tube, Boys?") – in addition to Busters Verden.

Maxie's World is an animated cartoon series about a teenage girl named Maxie in Surfside High School in California. Maxie was a straight A student who produced and hosted her own TV show part time. Based on the "Maxie" line of fashion dolls from Hasbro, this show was broadcast in late '80s and early '90s syndicated to local stations in the United States, and in the UK on TV-am's Wacaday. The U.S. broadcast also included rebroadcasts of Beverly Hills Teens and It's Punky Brewster.Produced for Hasbro by DIC Entertainment, the U.S. broadcast was syndicated by Claster Television, which was owned by Hasbro, the makers of the "Maxie" dolls. Because of this, Hasbro must give approval before any home video release of this series is made. It is unknown when, or if the series will be released on DVD.

Set in 1992, Heimsendir is an isolated mental hospital on the outskirts of Reykjavík. The hospital, referred to as ‘World’s End’ is a last resort for many mental patients, many of whom consider it a home. Elementary school teacher, Einar, is committed against his will after a severe nervous breakdown and is critical about how things are run at the hospital and before long he has most of the patients on his side, rooting for change. Einar, along with the other patients, stages a revolution and takes over the hospital, declaring its a state within a state, a Utopia for the mentally ill.
